Potted History There are two Branches on Cyprus, ours in Limassol and one in Larnaca'. We are the oldest of the two Branches by some 20 years, and are now in our 23rd year. The Limassol Branch was founded on the 11th November 1989, with the support of the then Commander British Forces Cyprus, Major General JPW Friedberger. We celebrated our 20th Anniversary in our Clubhouse in 2009. Amongst the distinguished guests present were the Former President of the Republic of Cyprus, Glafcos Clerides, who was in the RAF in WWII and the Commander British Forces Cyprus Major General Jamie Gordon. We were also fortunate to have two of the remaining four founder members as guests on the day. Ray Bristow and Ray Martin. The day was a great success and a testament to all those who have served the Branch over the years and indeed the Members who have made the Branch such a success. In the early days meetings were held in local pubs until we progressed to our own small Clubhouse just off the seafront. Some 14 years or so we moved into our present premises, starting with two units and expanding to take over the whole block. Our facilities amongst others include a library, hire of medical appliances such as wheel chairs, walking aids and many others. We also hire out children’s cots, pushchairs and highchairs. Our future is exciting with our strategy to expand into the Paphos Region, to not only grow the Branch Membership but to also reach more of our needy ex-service folks with our Welfare Services. |
